Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a valve cover of a compressor improved in airtightness by press forming in making the area of pressure contact of an upper die with a plate 14 greater than the gap of a lower die and thereby improving flatness of the contact face. CONSTITUTION:The sectional form is so set that an area E of pressure contact of an upper die 16 of a press with a plate 14 is greater than a gap 18 in which a lower die 13 does not support the plate 14. Because of this setting, when the upper die 16 is lowered, force operates to pull and let flow down the steel material of the area A outside of the upper die 16. On the other hand, as the area B occupied by the lower die 13 is formed greater than the area A, force is caused by the lower die 13 to let flow the steel material into the area A from outer periphery of the area B. Since these keep balance, the steel material in the area A between upper dies 16, 16 does not flow, and the contact face 14a of the valve cover 20 is made approximately flat. By this way, a highly airtight valve cover can be obtained.
