Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the stable controlling of toner density possible by detecting the reflected rays from the ground surface and standard concn. pattern of a latent image carrier respectively. CONSTITUTION:The non-image parts of a photosensitive drum 11, that is, the ground surface is irradiated with a light emitting element 25, and the reflected light thereof is detected with a photodetector 26. The detection signal thereof is held in a CPU29 after A/D conversion 28. The value thereof is defined as VG. The reflected light from the standard pattern 24 formed on the drum 11 is similarly detected with the element 25 and the photodetector 26, and the digital signal thereof is held in the CPU29. The value thereof is defined as VP. The CPU29 operates a driver 31 in such a way that the detection signals VG and VP attain a constant ratio, thereby replenishing a toner into a developing vessel 17. In this way, the change in the characteristics of the light emitting element and the photodetector is corrected and the density of the toner is controlled stably.
