Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent change of image density and to stabilize an image, by measuring the optical density of the surface of a photoreceptor containing a material changing in color development due to moisture absorption in order to detect a state of moisture absorption and controlling an image formation process in accordance with its moisture absorption state. CONSTITUTION:A photosensitive drum 1 is rotated and the output of a sensor 15 detecting the optical reflection density of the surface of said drum 1 is fed to a density measuring device 17, converted into a digital signal with a converter 18, and fed to a controller 19. When the controller 19 receives an output value corresponding to the optical reflection density of the surface of the drum 1 DD=0.3 higher than the value corresponding to that of the surface in a standard low moisture absorption state or in a dry state, DD=0.1, the controller 19 controls a voltage controller 21 in order to correct drop of charge potential and increase of dark decay due to the moisture absorption of the drum 1, decides the voltage to be applied to a corona charger 2, applies the voltage, and starts an image formation process. When the controller 19 receives a lower output value than that corresponding to the reflection density DD=0.1, it applies a prescribed voltage immediately to the corona charger 2, and starts the image formation process.
