PURPOSE:To contrive to improve the efficiency of profiling controlling independently of the form of profile model by a method wherein the lowering of profiling time efficiency is eliminated by making the draw-off amount of a tracer heat at the final point of profiling variable in accordance with the surface form of the profile model. CONSTITUTION:The profiling controlling device 1 controls the profiling of a machine tool 1a. The tracer head 2 traces the model surface of the profile model 4 and detects the displacements of a stylus 11 during the tracing of the surface. X-, Y- and Z-axis differential transformers 12, 13 and 14 for detecting the three- dimensional axis linear displacements are arranged three-dimensionally on a cylinder column 11a. A controlling unit 10 controls X-, Y- and Z-axis motors 7, 8 and 9 in order to drive a main spindle cutter 3 and a table 6. A microcomputer detects the highest point H in the profiled path by comparing the counted amount of each point in the path from the start point A to the final point B of profiling and sets the draw-off amount by comparing the height of the point H with that of the final point B.
