In detecting the leaking, valves 7 and 8 are closed in order to block the section 3 to be checked in the buried distributing waterpipe. Thereafter, a first branching valve 11 is opened, and a pump 10 is started by a power source 13. When the output water pressure becomes larger than the normal distributing pressure, a second branching valve 12 is opened, and the water enters into the blocked section. Then, the pressure of the jetting water from the leaking point increases. Therefore the leaking sound, which is sufficiently louder than the underground noises, can be detected.
