Abstract

PURPOSE:To fully suppress generation of NOx in a combustion controller, by arithmetically obtaining combustion temperature from intake air temperature and internal pressures of a cylinder, at the final period of its compression stroke and in a state of its combustion, and controlling an exhaust gas recirculation amount, air-fuel ratio and ignition timing from the obtained value of said combustion temperature. CONSTITUTION:Each signal of an intake temperature sensor 5, pressure sensor 7, detecting internal pressure of a cylinder, and a crank angle sensor 11 is input to a controller 6, and combustion temperature Tn is arithmetically obtained from intake air temperature Ti, compression stroke final pressure PA, combustion pressure Pn and combustion chamber volume Vn, to obtain maximum temperature Tmax. On the basis of a value of said temperature Tn, an MPU19 selects an optimum control value from a map in a ROM18, to control a quantity of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). That is, the value of Tn is compared with a prescribed value in accordance with each operational condition to change width of a pulse signal to an EGR negative pressure control valve 16 and drive the valve 16. Accordingly, even without the necessity for using expensive sensors, combustion temperature can be correctly obtained to fully suppress generation of NOx.
