Abstract
PURPOSE:To form stable weld zones of high strength in spot welding of a bimetal and a heater wire of a thermal type overload relay by forming many small projections on the surface of the bimetals and welding the bimetal at these parts to the heater wire. CONSTITUTION:In the case of spot welding the free end part 32 of a bumetal 3 and the end part 61 of a heater wire 6 of a m.p. higher than those of the metal constituting the bimetal in a thermal type overload relay, many ridge-like small projections 33 are formed in the longitudinal direction of the free end part 32 of the bimetal. The end part 61 of t e wire 6 is brought into contact with the parts 33 under pressure, and these are spot-welded. The welding current and the pressurizing force by a welding electrode concentrate at the peaks of the small projections 33, by which the locally molten metal is pressed and the stable spot-weld zones of high strength are formed on the end part 61 of the wire 6 and the surface of the bimetal 3 at multiple points.
