Abstract

PURPOSE:To anneal a weld zone adequately at a slight cost and prevent the occurrence of cracking during working by using the annealing electrodes of contactors conducting electricity from one side of butt welded strip plates via the weld zone to the other side for a spot welding machine. CONSTITUTION:For example, a dust shield 2 of a brake drum 1 consists of butting both ends of slender strip plates and arc welding these. In order to anneal the weld zone 15 thereof, an insulator 13 is coupled to one contactor 12 of a pair of upper and lower electrodes 11, and these are so constituted that electric current flows from the one electrode 11 to the other electrode 11 across the weld zone 15. Namely, each electrode 11 has a pair of the contactors 12 which are forked at a notch 14 and the insulator 13 is coupled to one of these. A pair of the upper and lower contactors are disposed across the weld zone 15 with the insulating materials 13 on the opposite sides thereof. If such electrode pair 11 is connected to an electric power source, the weld zone 15 is heated, and the hardness of the zone 15 is arbitrarily set by controlling the electric current and time.
