Abstract

PURPOSE:To weld the entire part of weld zones with superposed parts of a uniform width in the stage of welding and manufacturing a can body of a steel plate having no tin plating layers by setting the size of the superposed parts of the steel plate to a constant width and subjecting these to electric resistance seam welding with upper, lower revolving roll electrodes. CONSTITUTION:Both edge parts 11, 12 of a metallic blank 2a consisting of tin plates or tin-free steel such as Ni-plated steel plates, chromated-steel plates or the like are introduced into the grooves 14, 15 of a guiding part 13 and are advanced whereby the edge parts are formed in such a way that their superposed width is about twice the thickness of the steel plate. This is inserted between upper, lower revolving roll electrodes and is subjected to electric resistance seam welding under pressurizing. The production of the can body of a constant superposed size of the steel plate in the welded part and high strength is made possible.
