Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain bright copper or copper alloys, by passing copper or a copper alloy through a low oxygen concentration atmosphere and then a reducing atmosphere or an inert atmosphere that have been created in a single furnace by letting respective gases to flow through it so that the oxidized film on the metal can be removed.
CONSTITUTION: A prescribed temperature distribution in the range of about 400W1,000°C is established in the furnace body 1, and a reducing gas or an inert gas is supplied via a gas introduction inlet 5, and is drawn out via a gas outlet 6 so that the region in the furnace from the gas introduction inlet 5 to the gas outlet 6 becomes a reducing atmosphere or inert atmosphere. On the other hand, a gas mixture of air plus an inert gas or a reducing gas is supplied via a gas introduction inlet 4 so that similarly the region from the gas introduction inlet 4 to the gas outlet 6 becomes a low oxygen concentration oxidizing atmosphere. Then a degreased copper or copper alloy is passed using a belt 2 through the furnace 1 so that the soil on the surface can be oxidized with the oxidizing atmosphere to be removed, and the oxidized surface is then reduced under the reducing atmosphere or inert atmosphere to obtain the beautiful and bright copper or copper alloy.
