Abstract

1,082,667. Soldering. KASERMANN & SPERISEN A.G. Dec. 23, 1964 [Jan. 10, 1964], No, 52212/64. Heading B3R. A method of soldering parts of gold or gold alloy with a noble metal containing solder, comprises heating said parts in a protective gas atmosphere containing water vapour in a continuous furnace. The water vapour may be introduced into the protective atmosphere, as water or as water vapour or may be produced in it. Part of a hydrogen containing protective gas atmosphere, produced by the thermal dissociation of ammonia is burnt with air carbon dioxide, other oxygen containing gas or a solid oxygen containing compound to produce the water vapour. The solid oxygen containing compound may be copper or iron oxides or oxidized parts of the articles to be soldered. The subsequent cooling of the soldered parts occurs in a protective gas atmosphere free from water vapour. In an example, the soldering together of two 14 carat gold parts with 9 carat gold solder, as they pass through the furnace on a conveyer belt, is disclosed.
