Abstract
PURPOSE: To activate the surface of Mg and carry out the reaction for generating hydrogen continuously in generating the hydrogen by the reaction of Mg with water, by dispersing a specific metal or metallic electrically conductive substance in the Mg to be used.
CONSTITUTION: In generating hydrogen by reacting Mg with water to decompose the water, the surface of the Mg is covered with hydroxide to stop the reaction thereof with water and reaction for generating the hydrogen. For preventing this phenomenon and reacting the Mg with water continuously, a powder or granular material of a metal, e.g. Cd, Cu, W or Pt, except Fe, Cr, Mn, Zn, Ni and oxides thereof or a nonmetallic electrically condutive substance, e.g. ferrous chloride, cupric oxide, zinc acetate, or graphite, is dispersed in Mg and contained therein. These substance as a secondary battery constitute a local cell to activate the surface of the Mg, continue the reaction with water and generate the hydrogen without interruption.
