Abstract

PURPOSE: To generate H2 by putting Mg into an aq. soln. of neutral salt such as NaCl or seawater and by connecting the Mg to metal such as Fe, Ni or Zn to form an oxide film on the Mg surface.
CONSTITUTION: Mg is put into an aq. soln. of NaCl or the like, or seawater. Metal such as Fe, Ni, Zn or Pt is dipped in the soln. or seawater and connected to the Mg to generate H2 from both of the metals. When the Mg surface turns to black, generation of H2 from the Mg continues even if the other metal is taken out. By connecting the metals with a copper wire and supplying electric current to the wire, generation of H2 from both of the metals is further accelerated.
