Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the outflow of a microorganism adhered carrier by a method wherein sewage is biologically treated with microorganism adhered to the carrier comprising an iron powder or an iron oxide powder and the treated water is discharged through a magnetic field.
CONSTITUTION: Microorganism is adhered to the surface of an iron powder carrier to be grown thereon and sewage is biologically purified by the grown microorganism. As microorganism is grown, the specific gravity of the microorganism adhered iron powder carrier becomes light. When this carrier is flowed outwardly to a line (c) out of the system, magnetic gradient is generated to a filter by the action of a magnet 10 and, even if the microorganism adhered carrier is flowed along an arrow (e), it can not passed through the filter 11 because the iron powder carrier is magnetized and held in front of the filter 11 in a conc. condition. When said carrier reaches a definite conc. degree, current supply is stopped when an electromagnet is used and the microorganism adhered iron powder carrier is moved to a direction shown by an arrow (f) to be directly returned to an apparatus main body.
