Abstract
PURPOSE:To simplify the measurement by determining heat resistance from variation in the light output until the driving current of a semiconductor laser diode regains balance after it is changed. CONSTITUTION:A semiconductor laser diode is driven by a current I0 larger enough than initial threshold current Itho and the light output is L0 and balances at the temperature T0 at the joint. Then, when the current I0 is changed to I1 cascaded, the light output moves instantaneously to L0 on the L-I curve with respect to the temperature T0. Subsequently, according to changes in the joint temperature, the light output changes and attains balance at the current I1 (light output L1 and the joint temperature T1). Transient characteristics of the light output is observed to determine L'0 and DELTAL when L0 and I1/DELTAI are given. Thus, Rth is obtained by a specified calculation.
