Abstract
The supply circuit has a power control loop controlled by a photocurrent following the variations in emitted power and producing a variable control current. The control loop is supplied from two opposite-polarity supply sources. The LED (or lasing semi-conductor) is in series with a control transistor connected to one supply source. A second transistor is connected in a common-base configuration between the two supply sources for passing the loop control current to the control transistor. The second transistor base is connected to the output of the control loop and its own output is connected to the base of the control transistor. The control loop contains a protection circuit comprising a timing circuit of longer time constant than the response time of the loop.
