Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a polyester having high hydrolytic stability, by adding a trivalent phosphorus compound in the course of the esterification of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid with an alkylene glycol using an organic tin compound as a catalyst, thereby deactivating the catalyst, and then carrying out the polymerization using another catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g. terephthalic acid) and an alkylene glycol (e.g. ethylene glycol) are mixed together at a molar ratio of 1: (1.05W5), and esterified at 180W280°C in the presence of 0.01W0.3wt%, based on terephthalic acid, of an organic tin compound (e.g. butyltin hydroxyoxide) as a catalyst. When the conversion reaches ≥70%, the catalyst is deactivated by adding a trivalent phosphorus compound (e.g. phosphorous acid) at a molar ratio (P/Sn) of (0.1W5)/1, preferably (0.5W3)/1 and reacting at 180W280°C for 10min W3hr. A catalyst (e.g. tetrabutyl titanate) is added to the mixture, and the polycondensation reaction is carried out at 200W300°C under a pressure of ≤1mmHg to obtain the objective polyester.
