Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a polyester having a small amount of diethyleneglycol component, with improved transparency and color tone, by adding a sulfonic acid compound to a specific initially condensed oligomer, followed by polycondensation.
CONSTITUTION: A dicarboxylic acid (an ester-forming derivative) consisting mainly of terephthalic acid is reacted with a glycol consisting mainly of ethylene glycol to give an initially condensed oligomer having a conversion not less than 96% and a terminal glycol group amount not more than 1.5mm equivalent per gram. An aromatic sulfonic acid shown by the formula [m is 1W3; n is 0W3; Ar is aromatic group; X is OR1, COOR2 (R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl), or halogen] in an amount to give a 1×10-4W10×10-4 sulfonic acid group per mole of dicarboxylic acid component and polycondensation is carred out.
