Abstract
PURPOSE: A specific sulfonic acid and a phosphine are added in a specific proportion respectively as catalyst, thus producing a PET polyester with high transparency, good color tone and less diethylene glyol content.
CONSTITUTION: In the production of a polyester from difunctional carboxylic acids mainly containing terephthalic acid or their ester-forming derivatives and glycols mainly containing ethylene glycol, (A) an aromatic sulfonic acid or its anhydride of formula I [m is 1W3; n is 0W3; Ar is aromatic group; X is OR1, COOR2 (R1, R2 are H, lower alkyl, halogen)] such as p-sulfobenzoic acid in such an amount that the sulfonic acid group becomes 1×10-4W10×10-4 equiv. mole per mole of the acid component in the polyester and (B) a phosphine of formula II (R3, R4 are H, alkyl, aromatic group; R5 is alkyl, aromatic group) such as diphenyl phosphine is such an amount that phosphorus atoms become 0.2W4 times the moles of sulfonic groups are added to the polyester as catalyst.
