Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the wear resistance and lubricity of a sintered Fe alloy by providing a structure contg. graphite, lead and iron sulfide dispersed uniformly in a pearlite matrix or a pearlite-ferrite mixed matrix.
CONSTITUTION: Atomized iron powder is mixed with Fe sulfide powder, Pb powder and graphite powder, and zinc stearate powder is added as a lubricant. The resulting composition contg. 0.5W6% C, 0.5W3% S and 0.1W5% Pb is sintered. The matrix of the sintered alloy is pearlite or a pearlite-ferrite, mixture, and the alloy has a structure contg. graphite, Fe sulfide and Pb dispersed finely and uniformly in the matrix. A superior sintered alloy with superior wear resistance and lubricity as starting material for a sliding member is obtd.
