Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce friction by allowing the balls to travel within a certain distance in a retainer and having the ball and the ratainer contact at the point closer to an inner ring at one end of the travel distance and at the point closer to an outer ring at the other end.
CONSTITUTION: The shape of receiving surfaces 7 and 7' of a retainer 6 form circular shaped grooves having a radius r equal to that of a ball 5, and said circular grooves being partially interrupted by recesses 8 and 8' and each remaining portion forming a short helix, and a pin 9 being provided to limit and travel of the ball 5. The ball 5 is allowed to travel within a certain distance in the retainer 6 contacting the retainer at the point close to an inner ring 1 at one and of the travel and at the point close to an outer ring 3 at the other end of the travel. The ball 5 is surrounded by a conical surface 2, spherical surface 4 and the receiving surface 7, and makes rolling movement making only point contacts with all these surface without any sliding friction.
