Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide an electrode of an ice thickness detector with high control accuracy by providing an electrode rod made of a coil shaft that has a thermal conductivity that is smaller than that of ice and is insulating electrically and has thin metal wire wound spirally round its outer face and installing the electrode vertically on the cooling surface. CONSTITUTION:A mandrel 2 has a thermal conductivity that is smaller than that of ice and is wound spirally by a thin metal wire 3 to constitute an electrode rod. Accordingly thermal conduction is made in the peripheral direcion through the metal wire 3 that is wound spirally, and thermal conduction in the axial direction of the electrode rod is the sum of the winding pitch of the metal wire 3 and thermal conduction of the mandrel 2 itself, and the thermal conduction through the mendrel is seemingly obstructed. Namely, the ice round the electrode has the same freezing face as the freezing face of a cooling pipe 1, and the value of the electric current through the water 8 that is cooled always corresponds to the freezing face. The amount of coolant that flows through the cooling pipe 1 is controlled by the electric current value and the thickness of freezing face can be surely controlled.
