Abstract

PURPOSE: To decompose NOx gas into harmless O2 and N2 by introducing NOx gas into a negative electrode space formed by making a wall made of oxide solid electrolyte having oxygen ion conductivity an electrode face and keeping at a specified temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical wall 1 is formed using a solid electrolyte such as calcia, stabilized zirconia etc. that shows oxygen ion conductivity at high temperature. Metallic films are provided on inner and outer faces and negative voltage and positive voltage are applied respectively to form a negative electrode face 2 and a positive electrode face 3. NOx gas 9 is sucked by a blower 13 and introduced into the negative electrode space 5 at the inside of the cylindrical wall 1, and the cylindrical wall 1 is heated by an electric furnace to 400W 1,400°C. NOx is decomposed into N2 and O2, and O2 diffuses in the solid electrolyte of the wall 1, and arrives at the positive electrode 6. Then, it is led to outside from an outlet 8. N2 remains in the negative electrode space, and NOx gas is separated to N2 gas.
