Abstract

PURPOSE:To constitute a by-pass circuit which prevents damage at low cost by providing a movable part, which has four incorporated optical fibers, between two input optical fibers and two output optical fibers, and using a high- loss fiber as one of them. CONSTITUTION:End surfaces of output optical fibers 14 and 15 and input optical fibers 16 and 17 are formed and fixed on the same plane 22, and fiber end surfaces of a movable part 23 having channel-curved fibers 18-21 incorporated are pressed against the plate 22 and slid. Then, Fig. (a) shows that a signal from a high-priority station is received at a part 16, processed by a receiver R and transmitted to a transmitter T for transmission 15 to a low-priority station. In Fig. (b) for maintenance inspection, etc., the high-priority station side 16 has direct communication 21 with the low-priority station side 15, forming a by- pass circuit as shown by 17, 19 and 14. When the fiber 19 has high loss, electric power for transmission is reduced and inputted to the receiver R to facilitate maintenance inspection without disconnecting a trunk line. Consequently, the by-pass circuit having simple structure is constituted.
