Abstract
PURPOSE:To make cooling uniform and better by providing a hardening head which has a cylindrical body provided at one end with a clamping mechanism for a steel pipe and is connected at the other end with a water feed pipe rotatably and is provided with a rotating mechanism for the cylindrical body. CONSTITUTION:A steel pipe P to be hardened is aligned to a hardening head 1, and the end face of the pipe P is clamped in abutment on a nozzle 19 by a clamping mechanism 2. In this state, cooling water is fed from a water feed pipe 3 through the body 12 into the pipe P, thereby cooling the pipe. At this time, a motor 16 is driven to rotate the body 12 and the pipe P via a gear 18, so that the inside of the pipe P is cooled uniformly. The outside surface of the pipe P is also properly cooled to accelerate uniform cooling. If necessary, the head 1 and the pipe P are moved axially by a moving mechanism 4 for much better cooling effect. Upon cooling for a prescribed time, the water feeding is stopped, and air is supplied through an air supply pipe 32 into the body 12 and the pipe P.
