Abstract
1297783 Injection moulding machines TURNER MACHINERY Ltd 12 Feb 1970 [13 March 1969] 13253/69 Heading B5A Plastics material in a shoot 18 is fed to an injection chamber 8 by a screw 10 which is located as shown in Fig. 3 to allow flow past its head 13, then rams 17 are operated to draw the head back to close the outlet from a bore 9 containing the screw and finally the whole feed assembly including a tailstock 4, barrel 5, sleeve 7, screw 10 and a plate 11 are advanced by means of an hydraulic cylinder 16 so that the sleeve 7 telescopes over an elongated boss 3 and plastics material is injected into the mould. The screw 10 is rotated by an hydraulic motor (12) mounted on the plate 11. As the screw 10 feeds material into the chamber 8 the feed assembly is moved rearwardly to a position preset by a limit switch which stops the rotation of the screw. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown), the hydraulic cylinder (16<SP>1</SP>) for moving the feed assembly is mounted on a fixed plate 20 tied through bars (21) to headstock 1.
