Abstract
PURPOSE:To align both optical fibers to be connected while observing the intensity of the detection light, by arranging a light source, which generates a bidirectional light, between these optical fibers and detecting coupled lights from positions near connection end parts of respective optical fibers. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 2 and 2' are bent in the vicinity of fine moving tables 7 and 7', and radiation light powers from bent parts are detected by detectors 9 and 9'. Lights to optical fibers 2 and 2' are emitted from bidirectional light sources 8 whose optical axes coincide with each other. While watching display equipments 6 and 6', optical fibers are aligned by moving finely moving tables 7 and 7' so that light powers become maximum. After that, bidirectional light sources 8 are moved from the middle between optical fibers 2 and 2' to be connected, and optical fibers opposing to each other are made close without changing core axes of fibers 2 and 2' and are connected by melting.
