Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of defective welding parts and the failure of a torch and objects to be welded, etc. by detecting the fault state when the leading end of the torch is not in a prescribed position by means of laser projectors and photodetectors. CONSTITUTION:While a consumable electrode 2 projects by passing through a weld point W, it results in that the electrode 2 exists past the point Q where the respective optical paths in detecting means intersect, hence respective laser detectors 51, 52 and 53 turn off. When the electrode 2 is deviated from the welding point W, the electrode 2 no longer passes the point Q where the optical paths intersect, and therefore at least one photodetector out of the detectors 51, 52 and 53 detects the laser. More specifically, at least one laser detector turns on, and a buzzer is sounded or a pilot lamp is flickered by the output signal thereof, whereby the fault of the welding torch is detected.
