Abstract
PURPOSE:To minimize the decrease in production efficiency owing to roll changing by stopping the rolling operation temporarily upon ending of the roll changing work, and setting the draft of the changed rolls at the threshold draft or above then continuing the rolling. CONSTITUTION:In a continuous cold rolling mill, the threshold draft at which the slip between rolls and a strip or between the rolls beings to take place is beforehand set. The threshold draft is calculated by measuring forward slips, fluctuations in tension between stands, fluctuations in plate thickness, etc. In the (i)-stand tandem rolling mills, the conditions of rolling during rolling work are changed and the rolls are changed while the rolling is accomplished in the (i-1)-stand on behalf of said rolls. After the roll changing, the rolling work is stopped for a short time of <=10sec, and the draft of the new rolls is set at the threshold draft or above, then again the rolling by the (i)-stand is continued, whereby the generation of accidents such as slips, plate breakage, chattering and the like is prevented.
