PURPOSE:To enable smooth operation of a motor generator by providing the first and second speed references for respectively setting a high speed when a current control loop, a speed control loop and a pulse load are energized and a standby speed after a pulse load is energized. CONSTITUTION:A revolution speed controller 15 selects the first revolution speed reference N1 which is determined in response to the magnitude of the discharged energy of a generator 3 when an acceleration command A is inputted, and selects the second revolution reference N2 for setting the standby speed when an acceleration command A is stopped. A revolution speed controller 15 controls a liquid resistor 5 so that the revolution speed N of a motor generator may become a revolution speed reference. It also obtains a current reference IR as a function of the difference en between the revolution speed N and the revolution speed reference, and controls the resistor 5 so that the difference e1 between the primary current I of an induction motor 1 and the current reference IR may fall within the prescribed range.
