Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable to prevent generation of knocking with a good accuracy by a method wherein the elements of vibrations in different directions due to the knocking are detected respectively to control the ignition timing in accordance with the output of a logical operation circuit. CONSTITUTION:The vibrations in the directions of X and Y due to the knocking phenomenon of an engine block 11 are detected by knocking detectors 2, 3 consisting of piezo-electric elements or the like and they are inputted into knocking detecting circuits 53, 54 through band pass and by-pass filters 51, 52. Here, if they are exceeded a knocking decision level KL, knocking signals are outputted from respective circuits, and if either one of them is arrived at H level, a H level signal is outputted from an OR circuit 55 and is fed to an operating circuit 56 for the amount of delay angle to compute the amount of the delay angle from the standard ignition timing. Thus, the vibrations in the two directions of X and Y are detected and, therefore, the knocking decision having a good accuracy may be effected.
