Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce radiation loss of a heater and burn particulates efficiently by a method wherein grooves are provided at an end part on the upstream side of a filter member which catch the particles contained in exhaust gas, and an electric heater for burning the caught particulates is placed in the grooves. CONSTITUTION:In the catcher, a metallic wire net 31 having heat resistance as a thermal cushion material is placed on the inside of a metallic container 3 provided with an inlet port 3a and an outlet port 3b for the exhaust gas at upstream and downstream ends thereof, and the filter member 4 consisting of a porous ceramic is placed on the inside of the net 31. The filter member 4 is provided with two layers of different coarseness of pores comprised of an essential filter part 41 and an electric- heater embedding part 42 located on the upstream side of the filter part 41, the two parts constituting two layers of different coarseness of pores. The electric heater is placed in the grooves 44 provided in the embedding part 42, by appropriately bending a single wire to distribute it to the whole region of the embedding part 42. After placing the heater 5 in the grooves 44, the heater 5 is fixed by fitting a fixing member 45 of the same material as that of the embedding part 42 into each of the grooves 44.
