Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently regenerate a filter for collecting the exhaust particles of a Diesel engine or the like, by embedding an electric heater upstream of the filter. CONSTITUTION:A filter 42 for collecting the exhaust particles of a Diesel engine or the like is made of a porous body of ceramic or the like. The peripheral part of the exhaust inlet side of the filter 42 is provided with nicks 42b and communication holes 42c extending inwards from holes 42d opened into the nicks. Elecric heating wires 43 are laid in the holes 42d, 42c so that an electrical current is caused to flow through the wires 43 when the filter 42 is clogged. Since the electric heating wires 43 are embedded in the filter 42, heat is effectively transferred to the filter to burn the nearby particles. The flames of the particles propagate downstream. As a result, the filter 42 is efficiently regenerated.
