CONSTITUTION:A center controller 2 and a retrieval display terminal equipment 4a are connected mutually through a transmission line 3a, and a retrieval request number which corresponds to a number given to desired video information from a terminal-side user is inputted with key switches on the equipment 4a. By inputs of respective digits of the retrieval request number consisting of digits in combination, retrieval request signals 7a1, 7a2...7am are transmitted to the controller 2. At this time, every time the controller 2 receives those signals, it transmits answer signals 9a1, 9a2...9am, which correspond to the respective digits of the signal, to the terminal equipment 4a prior to the transmission start of a normal video information signal 8a.
