Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce an extra low nitrogen ingot inexpensively in desiliconization (de-Si) or desiliconization and dephosphorization (de-S, -P) treatments of molten iron by blowing an oxidizing agent into molten iron in the absence of nitrogen then refining and continuously casting the same by conventional methods. CONSTITUTION:In de-Si, de-S, -P states, an oxidizing agent is blown onto molten iron by using a gas such as Ar or CO2 other than gaseous N2. At this time, the amt. of the using oxidizing agent is set at least 6 Nm<3>/t-molten iron expressed in terms of gaseous nitrogen. The resultant low N molten iron is subjected to decarbonization refining by oxygen blowing according to conventional methods, to low N steel. Then while nitrogen addition to the molten steel is prevented, the molten steel is continuously cast, and the extra low N steel ingot reduced of N in steel to about <=10ppm is produced.
