Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the shape defects at the front and leading ends of an H- beam and to improve yield in hot rolling of the H-beam by pressing down the leading and trailing ends of the flange and web parts of a material to be rolled on the outlet side of a breakdown rolling mill. CONSTITUTION:In the production of an H-beam, the leading end part of a material 8 to be rolled out from a breakdown rolling mill is rolled to a prescribed plate thickness by using horizontal dies 6 and applying press-down to its web, after which flange parts are deformed by using vertical dies 7. The trailing end of the material 8 is also pressed down by the similar procedures, whereby the leading and trailing ends of the flange and web parts are rolled roughly to finish sizes. Thereby, the flanges and web are kept free from receiving pressing down in the rough universal rolling stage of the next step and the production of crops at the leading and trailing ends is suppressed. In ordinary universal rolling, the yield of products is improved without deficiency of edge metal.
