Abstract

PURPOSE:To make thrust bearing in a small size in a converter using a flywheel, in which part of the vertical load applied to the vertical shaft flywheel is born afloat by the attractive force between the rotor and armature, by controlling power supply to the 3-phase armature winding by means of change of the load on the flywheel. CONSTITUTION:In a converter, in which a flywheel 4 equipped with a rotor 3 is supported afloat by means of controlled power supply to the flat type armature core 2 arranged facing the rotor 3 at a certain spacing, a load sensing device 8 is installed below the rotary shaft 1 of the flywheel 4 through a thrust bearing 7. To sense the revolving speed of the flywheel 4, a speed sensor 12 is installed. The abovementioned armature core 2 is wound with a 3-phase winding 10, to which variable voltage, variable frequency is fed from a pulse width modulation inverter. This inverter is controlled in accordance with the output from the above sensing means 8, 12 so that slip frequecies are generated in such a range as producing electromagnetic attractive force between the armature 2 and rotor 3.
