USE: Intermediate of the non-medical fungicide of formula II.
PROCESS: The compound of formulaIis prepared by reacting 2-chloro-N-methylaniline with chlorocarbonylsulfenyl chloride in the presence of a hydrochloric acid acceptor (e.g. TEA) preferably in an inert solvent (e.g. benzene) at -20W +50°C, preferably 0W25°C, for 0.5W3hr. The product can be converted to the compound of formula II without separating from the reaction mixture, by the cyclization reaction with an acid.
