Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain an adsorbing body with high uranium adsorbing capacity by fixing titanic acid on a porous cordierite substrate so as to enable the effective contact of titanic acid with a large quantity of seawater.
CONSTITUTION: A porous cordierite substrate is immersed in an aqueous titanate soln. to deposit titanic acid, and the titanic acid is fixed by drying to obtain an adsorbing body for collecting uranium in seawater. The substrate can be formed into an arbitrary shape such as a lattice, granular or platelike shape so as to make the efficiency of contact with seawater and the water permeation resistance optimum. In case of the lattice shape, each lattice space is regulated to ≥ about 5mm, and the specific surface area is preferably increased by making the thickness as small as possible while maintaining the necessary strength, etc.
