Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover fluorine as high grade CaF2 from a soln. contg. fluorine and sulfurous acid by blowing air into the soln. to remove the acid as gasesous SO2 and adding a Ca salt.
CONSTITUTION: Air is blown into a soln. contg. fluorine and sulfurous acid at ≥50°C and 0.4Nm3/m3/min blowing rate. As a result, most of the acid in the soln. is removed as gaseous SO2 to reduce the residual SO3 2- concn. to ≤0.1g/l. A Ca salt such as CaCO3 is then added to the soln. freed of most of the acid to precipitate fluorine in the soln. as CaF2, and the CaF2 is recovered by filtration. In this defluorination treatment it is important to keep the soln. at 2.3W4.5pH. By this method, CaF2 having ≥80% high purity can be recovered.
