Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance a corrosion-resisting property, especially a corrosion fatigue property, by descaling a steel spring after quenched, applying plastic coating powder in thickness of 10W500μ to the surface of the descaled steel spring, and then heating the powder-applied surface at 120W550°C.
CONSTITUTION: A steel material is formed into a spring shape such as a coil spring or a leaf spring in a conventional manner, and then quenched by heating the spring at 800W900°C and cooling it in oil or water. The surface of the spring is descaled by a mechanical method, e.g. grid blasting or shot blasting, or acid-pickling. Thereafter, plastic coating powder, prepared by mixing plastics such as epoxy resin or poly(vinyl chloride) with a curing agent, etc. and forming the mixture into a powdery state, is applied in thickness of 10W500μ to the descaled surface. The powder-applied surface is then heated at 120W550°C to cure the coating powder. In this way, a coated spring is obtained.
