Abstract

PURPOSE:To protect the overvoltage and overcurrent for a switching regulator having a transformer, by monitoring the mean value of the flyback voltage for limitation and at the same time monitoring the primary current of the transformer to change the limit value of the flyback voltage. CONSTITUTION:The input voltage Ei is applied to the primary winding n1 of a transformer 1, and the output voltage EO is supplied to a load RL from the induced voltage of the secondary winding n2 by turning on and off a transistor TR2. At the same time, the voltage Ef is supplied to an error amplifier 5 through the secondary winding n3, and the TR2 is turned on and off by the output Ea and via a driving circuit 8. Thus control is given to obtain a coincidence between the voltage Ef and the reference voltage Es to secure a constant voltage EO. In case the flyback voltage Efl increases owing to a fault of the feedback circuit of the amplifier 5, the output Eb of a differential amplifier 10 is selected 11 to limit the output voltage. When the primary current increases due to a short circuit of the load RL, the output voltage is limited by the amplifier 10 and the voltage drop EC of the resistance 12 via the TR1.
