Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep constant the rotating speed of a water wheel generator by a method wherein a dummy load is connected to the output of the generator through a semiconductor phase controlled switch. CONSTITUTION:Water supplied from a penstock (a) rotates a water wheel 1 connected directly to an AC generator 2. A comparator 5 receives a signal concerning the rotating speed of the generator 2 from a rotating speed detector 3 and a signal concerning the preset value from a rotating speed setter 4 and yields the difference between the two signals. The output of the comparator 5 is applied to the gate of a semiconductor phase controlled thyristor switch 6. The semiconductor phase controlled thyristor switch 6 discharges a part of the current outputted by a generator 2 to a dummy resistor 7.
