Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a soot layer of stable film thickness continuously on a mold surface by supplying a carbon powder layer sandwiched in plastic sheets in precedence to the molten metal supply position on a rotary casting wheel then burning away the sheets. CONSTITUTION:A sooter 2 to be supplied onto the mold surface is made into the construction wherein a carbon powder layer 8 is sandwiched between plastic sheets 7 and 9. This sooter 2 is supplied continuously through the spacing between a guide 6 and a retainer 5 to the position precedent to the molten metal supply position of a rotary casting wheel 4 to cover the mold surface in accordance with the rotation of the wheel 4. In succession to this, the plastic sheets 7, 9 of the sooter 2 are burned away under the combustion of a burner 10 to stick the layer 8 as a soot layer 8' on the mold surface of the wheel 4. Thence, molten metal is supplied into the mold formed between the wheel 4 and a metallic belt 3 in contact with the wheel 4, and a cast ingot 1 is cast continuously between the layer 8'' and the belt 3.
