Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as an agent for blocking β-receptor, easily, by using a novel stable N-substituted-4-hydroxyindole as a raw material, and carrying out the substitution reaction of the 4-poisiton OH together with the elimination reaction of the carbamate of the indole ring.
CONSTITUTION: The 4-position OH group of the novel N-substituted-4-hydroxyindole of formula I (R1 is lower alkyl or aralkyl) which is used as a raw material, is substituted by 3-alkylamino-2-hydroxypropoxy group, and at the same time the 1-position -COOR1 group of the indole ring of the starting material is catalytically reduced or hydrolyzed to obtain 4-(3-alkylamino-2-hydroxypropoxy)-indole of formula II (R2 is lower alkyl), e.g. 4-(3-isopropylamino-2-hydroxy-propoxy)-indole (pindolol).
