Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound useful as rubber vulcanization accelerator, pharmaceuticals, etc., without using difficult operations, in high yield, by reacting carbon disulfide and a primary amine with cyanamide as reaction components.
CONSTITUTION: Carbon disulfide is reacted with a primary amine, and the reaction product is further reacted with cyanamide to obtain the titled compound of formula I (R is alkyl, etc.). The latter reaction may be carried out by heating up to the boiling point of the amine, and the reaction goes to completion in several hours at the reaction temperature of 40W60°C.
EFFECT: The raw materials are available at low cost. Since there is no by-production of hydrogen sulfide and the reaction can be carried out in an aqueous solvent, the separation of the produced N,N'-di-substituted thiourea is generally easy, and the process is extremely advantageous from the industrial viewpoint.
