Abstract

PURPOSE:To make easy the assembling of an engine starter shifting mechanism by providing projections to a pinion shift lever so that the shift lever is temporarily locked to a part of the pinion through this projections. CONSTITUTION:The assembling of a starter pinion shifting mechanism is such that a motor portion 12 provided with a pinion latch 18 is inserted into a gear casing 38 simultaneously with the insertion of a shift lever 32 into a sleeve portion 22, and then a solenoid switch 28, a plunger 30 and a pushing spring 36 are fitted into the shift lever 32. In this insertion of the shift lever 32, projections 42 which make contact with the outer periphery of a sleeve 22, limits the movement of the shift lever 32 toward the shaft 14 since the distance L1 between the opposite projections 42 is shorter than the outer diameter L2 of the sleeve 22. With this arrangement, the assembling steps following to the insertion may be smoothly carried out without fixing the shift lever 34 temporarily.
