Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable the impact upon the meshing of a starter to be reduced by providing a pole core movable in the diametrical direction of a motor armature and by adjusting an air gap so that rotating torque is regulated. CONSTITUTION:Upon the starting of a starter, electrical current runs through a field coil 14 and an armature 18 so that a shaft 20 rotates. Then, a thread like splined part 22 transmits torque to a clutch 24 which is therefore pushed toward the free end of the shaft 29, and therefore a pinion gear 26 meshes with a ring gear 30 at the same time. At this stage, a pole core 16 is attracted to the side of the armature 18 due to the current running through the coil 14, but the pinion gear 26 is shifted by a weak torque since the pole core 16 is locked by a pole core shaft 32, having a large air gap G. When the meshing of the pinion gear 26 is thus completed, a push rod 36 disengages from the clutch 24 and the pole core is shifted to the armature side under attractive force, thereby the air gap G is decreased.
