PURPOSE:To obtain a small-sized silencer with a high silencing effect by providing reflecting elements in accordance with the frequency of the sound desired to be silenced on both ends of the silencer. CONSTITUTION:Noises penetrated through an end plate 4 of a silencer 2 from a pipe 1 connected to a noise source are dashed to oppositely facing end walls 6 constructing a chamber 7 provided inside the end plates 4 of the silencer 2 and partly reflected, and the remainder penetrates through the chamber 7 and reflected by the end plates 4. Both reflected waves are partly reflected by the end wall 6 on the side of the pipe 1, and the remainder is reflected by the end plate 4. As above-said reflections are repeated between both end plates and end walls, noises are reduced and discharged through a pipe 3 together with fluid. A distance l' between both end walls 6 in the silencer 2 is determined in accordance with the frequency of the sound in noises especially desired to be silenced.
