Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the shearing stress and bending moment caused at the portion where a shell and a shell plate are welded together, by fitting a ring to the outside of a shell member, the inner diameter of said ring being equal to or smaller than the outer diameter of the shell member. CONSTITUTION:An O-ring 12 is fitted to the outside of a shell 1 having a thickness t in the manner of satisfying the following relationship, H>=2h/3, where H is the distance between the lower end face of the ring 12 and the inner surface of the shell 1 at its top and h is the distance between the inner surface of a shell plate 2 and the inner surface of the shell 1 at its top. In case that the thickness T of the ring 12 is sufficiently large (however, r<=T<5t), the shearing stress produced between weld bead 3 and the shell plate 2 by the rigidity of the ring 12 when an internal pressure P is produced in a compressor is reduced by about 2pirHp. Further, since the shell 1 is retained firmly by the ring 12, the portion of the shell plate 2 located lower than the ring 12 is protected against deformation even if a high internal pressure is acted, so that almost no bending moment is acted to the weld bead 3.
